"I Love My Saturn"
by Hugh O'Dougherty
first performed at Homecoming
When I was done and began to leave
They all stood up and cheered
Applauded solidly, chanted my name
Like an idol revered
They were not my constituents
Nor my loyal listenership
No merely the employees of
The Saturn dealership
I love my Saturn,
Its fun and trouble free
All I do is change the oil
And add some gasoline
It’s a different kind of car
From a different company
And it’s made in that friendly plant
Down in Tennessee
Well before I made it home
They sent flowers to the house
Then Christmas cards to me
And valentine’s to the spouse
Then friendly helpful hints
On preserving tires and rotors
Never once admittin’
They’re part of general motors.
I love my Saturn
It’s fun and trouble free
All I do is change the oil
And add some gasoline
It’s a different kind of car
From a different company
And it’s made in that friendly plant
Down in Tennessee
But suspicion spoils my joy
Hearing other Saturneers
For Americans never love cars
Made in their hemisphere
So there must be something wrong
Are we possessed?
Are we a cult?
Did they drug us with the free coffee
Are we now programmed as a result?
Did aliens snatch our souls?
Solder chips into our heads?
They could have put us into pods
They chose compact cars instead
Only you who do not drive one
Can figure out this thing
Look deeply in our eyes
Listen closely as we sing
I love my Saturn
Its fun and trouble free
All I do is change the oil
And add some gasoline
It’s a different kind of car
From a different company
And it’s made on that friendly planet
With the three big rings
Every body now…
I love my Saturn
It’s fun and trouble free
All I do is change the oil
And add some gasoline
It’s a different kind of car
From a different company
And it’s made in that friendly plant
Down in Tennessee
You see it’s made on that friendly planet
Or down in Tennessee!
